Microsoft’s disc-to-digital conversion system for Xbox, reportedly codenamed “Project Positron,” could arrive as soon as next week according to new speculation building around a delayed Xbox Insider update.
Por qué esta historia importa ahora
Previous reports suggested Microsoft was internally testing the feature , which lets players insert eligible Xbox One or Xbox Series X discs into their console to receive a permanent digital entitlement tied to their Microsoft account.

Speculation intensified this week after the usual Xbox Insider program update failed to arrive on schedule. That was a notable break from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma’s recent promise of updates every two weeks.

Xbox Insider head Brad Rossetti teased that the delay would be “worth the wait.” Windows Central journalist Jez Corden responded simply: “Positron commeth.”

According to MP1st , the entitlement created through Positron is not a permanent, non-transferable code.
If a disc is sold or lent and activated on a different Microsoft account, the digital license is automatically revoked from the original owner and transferred to the new one, preserving the second-hand game market entirely.
Once converted, a game reportedly behaves like a natively purchased digital title, granting access through Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere. The system will only support Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs, with Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles not eligible.
The feature is seen as a key workaround for Microsoft’s next-generation console, codenamed Project Helix, which may launch without a disc drive entirely.
It comes as Sony has confirmed plans to stop supporting physical PlayStation discs from January 2028.
Microsoft is also reportedly testing several other Insider features in parallel, including expanded 15-character Gamertags, Xbox 360 achievements integrated into Game Hubs, and the ability to use cloud gaming while a console update downloads in the background.
