There are grants and loan companies that will help you out, but if you qualify for a scholarship, that’s even better. A lot of scholarships will give you a full ride, so you don’t have to worry about a thing, so long as you hit certain targets with your grades.

However, the University of Silicon Valley is doing things a little differently. They’re actually offering the Max Achievement Scholarships based on your gaming skills.

That’s right, the university, which has an emphasis on digital media and design, is handing out scholarships if you hit certain achievements in games.

Minecraft is one of those games, with the university giving people a $15,000 scholarship, so long as they can prove they’ve hit all 115 advancements in-game. 

“All achievements must be verifiable through official public profiles, APIs, or clear screenshots from the applicant’s account. Screenshots must include character name, account ID, and visible completion indicators. If an API or public verification tool is unavailable, the University may request video evidence or live screen verification,” they say.”

You can get a scholarship through different games.

As noted, there are other achievements you can hit too, including the likes of World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Destiny 2, Final Fantasy XIV, Genshin Impact, Dark Souls, Hollow Knight, and Cities: Skylines. 

These are split into Legendary and Mastery tiers, with the former providing $5,000 per term for a year, while Mastery is $2,500 per term. 

You also have to provide a written rationale that connects your achievement to educational outcomes, linking it to things like teamwork and systems management. And you’ve got to keep a 3.0 GPA too.
