Technoblade’s dad responds to YouTuber “larping” as his late son

Technoblade’s father has responded to Technolarp, a rapidly growing YouTuber who imitates the voice, mannerisms, and content style of his late son.

Technolarp has gained more than 180,000 YouTube subscribers by presenting himself as an intentional knockoff of Technoblade, using a recolored version of the Minecraft creator’s skin and publishing videos designed to resemble his content, and in some cases, recreating some of Technoblade's old videos.

Technoblade, whose first name was Alex, was one of Minecraft’s most recognizable creators and a prominent member of the Dream SMP. He died from cancer in 2022 at the age of 23, with his father announcing his death through the video “so long nerds.”

Before receiving a public response, Technolarp acknowledged that he had never obtained permission from Technodad. However, he argued that Technodad knew about the channel and had not asked him to stop.

“I never got permission, but Technodad has seen me and has not had any intent to stop me as of the moment,” he wrote on X.

In another post, Technolarp said his monetization was disabled and claimed he would not earn revenue unless Technodad allowed it. He has also insisted that he is “not a replacement,” instead describing himself as an “obvious knock off to entertain people.”

Technodad addressed the situation after a Reddit user asked whether he had approved Technolarp impersonating and making money from his son.

“I’ve been avoiding addressing this for a while now,” he wrote, explaining that he did not know how to react and considered the impersonation flattering to Technoblade while remaining uncertain about how he should respond.

Technodad confirmed that Technolarp had contacted him several times for his opinion, but said he had repeatedly put off answering because he did not know what to tell him.

He also explained that he had recently withdrawn from the wider community to focus on his scripts and space visualization software, adding that he had been enjoying the peace despite feeling guilty about disappearing.

“My response is: inconclusive,” he concluded. “I’m still ruminating on the whole thing.”

Technolarp is also connected to the wider “Larptuber” trend and created the LarpSMP, a Minecraft server where participants adopt personas based on established content creators.
