The chapter starts with Luffy transforming into a genie with Gear 5. The two fight fiercely as we see Imu’s memories. One such memory features Joyboy, whose smile looks strikingly similar to Luffy’s.

As the battle continues, Imu transforms his spear into a sword called Void and stabs Luffy fatally. One Piece Chapter 1188 ends with Imu saying that he knows Luffy isn’t Joyboy, as Joyboy could never be this weak.
