FIFA has opened an investigation after American streamer IShowSpeed was allegedly subjected to racist abuse during Argentina’s 3-2 victory over Cape Verde at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The incident took place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on July 3, where IShowSpeed was livestreaming from the stands while wearing a Cape Verde jersey. Video from the stream appears to show the influencer confronting an Argentina supporter after alleged racist remarks were directed at him.

The clip quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread attention and prompting calls for FIFA to respond. One clip on Reddit’s LivestreamFail community went viral, with the post alleging an Argentina fan shouted a racist slur, followed by “go home” at the streamer.

In a statement shared by BBC, football’s governing body confirmed it had begun looking into the incident shortly after becoming aware of it.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino and former football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic have both appeared on his broadcasts during the tournament. FIFA has not announced whether any disciplinary action will be taken while its investigation remains ongoing.
