According to the Associated Press , UFC president Dana White said afterward that the promotion is assuming McGregor suffered a torn ACL, an injury that typically requires six to twelve months of recovery.
It is McGregor’s seventh career loss and his fourth defeat in his last five fights, marking his first appearance since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021.
He has also been dealing with an 18-month UFC anti-doping ban after missing multiple tests in 2024, and was found liable for assault by a civil court in November 2024.
Holloway, who avenged his 2013 decision loss to McGregor, called the win “bittersweet” and immediately called for a trilogy fight. “You guys are lucky because there is going to be a Holloway v McGregor 3 now,” he said.
With McGregor’s future now uncertain, Holloway faces a decision on whether to stay at welterweight or drop back down to lightweight, where he currently holds a win over reigning champion Justin Gaethje.
