On July 3, it was revealed that the popular music-based manga The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All will be getting an anime adaptation.

The series follows outgoing high school student Aya, who falls for a stylish employee at a CD shop because of their shared love of rock music. However, she doesn't realize that her crush is actually her quiet classmate Mitsuki, who adopts a completely different look outside of school.

During an interview with manga creator Sumiko Arai, Grohl sat down to discuss the upcoming anime adaptation. The legendary musician shared his thoughts on the manga and was even given an early look at this show’s soundtrack, which features Nirvana’s “Breed” as the opening theme.
"I think that Kurt definitely would've loved this," Grohl said. "It seems like the same message, aesthetic, and the vibe, you know? It's cool."
Arai also gave Grohl a sneak peek at the anime's soundtrack, and it was instantly apparent that the rock star approved.
"Oh my, these are amazing, oh my god, it's so good. Wow, you have really good taste in music," said the singer-songwriter.

The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All is being directed by Masashi Ishihama, who previously worked on series including Spy x Family and Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
Other notable staff include Kanna Hirayama, the character designer behind Rent-a-Girlfriend and Oshi no Ko. Meanwhile, the two protagonists will be played by Mariya Ise and Akari Kito, who are known for their roles as Killua in Hunter x Hunter and Nezuko Kamado in Demon Slayer.
The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All will launch in January 2027, but you can get ahead by checking out the first three volumes of the manga while you wait for the show.
