Directed by Christopher Nolan and based on the legendary epic by Homer , the film is set to release on July 17, 2026, and follows the long and dangerous journey of Odysseus as he attempts to return home after the Trojan War, facing mythical creatures, angry gods, and impossible odds along the way.

Created by The Odyssey Movie, a new 18+ Roblox experience labelled “the official companion” to the movie called The Odyssey: Defy the Gods has launched.

Essentially, it turns the movie and classic story into a co-op survival adventure where you have to “defy fate” and “sail home,” with the description reading: “A survival sailing adventure across the ancient ocean. Pack a crew, ration your supplies, and appease the gods for the right of safe passage.”

During the game, players sail across the sea, scavenging mysterious islands for food (watch out for Circe), wood, and lost crew members while trying to survive crushing storms thanks to Poseidon, whirlpools, and other dangers likely from other Gods. Along the way, they’ll also solve puzzles on mythic islands to earn legendary rewards.

The entire adventure is designed around co-op play, allowing players to build a crew and sail with friends. To keep things fresh, every voyage generates a new ocean, meaning no two journeys back to Ithaca are exactly the same.

It’s an undeniably strange way to promote a blockbuster movie, but it seems to be working. The experience has already racked up more than 133,000 visits, showing there’s apparently plenty of interest in seeing one of history’s greatest literary epics transformed into a Roblox survival game.
