15-year-old arrestado tras stealing airport van for joyride

A 15-year-old boy has reportedly been arrested and charged after stealing a van from Edinburgh airport and taking it for a joyride.

As reported by Edinburgh Live , police were called out to the airport on June 25 after reports of a theft. It turned out that a “fully kitted out” maintenance van had been driven away from the premises.

Police Scotland have now recovered the van and have arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy. A spokesperson said: “Around 11.30am on Thursday, 25 June, 2026, officers received a report of the theft of a vehicle at Edinburgh Airport.

Edinburgh Airport confirmed, “A vehicle was stolen and has since been recovered. We continue to assist Police Scotland with their enquiries.”

The van was said to have been recovered “within the city,” and while we don’t know where exactly, the airport is on the outskirts of Edinburgh itself, roughly 8 miles from the city center.

Speaking to the publication, an anonymous local said, “Edinburgh Airport had their runway services engineering maintenance van stolen. It’s fully kitted out to carry out maintenance and repairs on the runway. This van is fitted with all the radios which allow two-way communication with all the departments security, and air traffic control.”

Edinburgh Live understands that airport safety protocols were triggered when the van was stolen, so there was no “significant security risk.” How the teenager actually managed to get the van out of the airport premises isn’t clear.
