The Akron Zips have gone viral after promising that one fan can help call the plays for the first offensive drive of their home opener.
A lot of sports fans believe that they could do the job better than the head coach of their favorite team. It is one of the most critiqued job positions in the world, especially when you’re at the highest level of things.
It’s why simulation games like Football Manager, EA FC, Madden, and NCAA College Football are so popular. You can take on that role without actually having to dedicate your life to it.
Now, the Akron Zips are giving one lucky fan the chance to script the first offensive drive of their home opener against Robert Morris University, and college football fans are trying to get involved.
Akron Zips will let fan call plays in first home game
That’s right, the Zips are allowing one fan to live out their dream of being an offensive coordinator, so long as they hold a season ticket.
They announced on August 4 that one lucky season ticket holder will have the chance to work with Head Coach Joe Moorhead to help design the plays that open the game.
Every season ticket counts as a separate entry, so if you own three tickets, you’ll get three entries. You’ll also get additional entries if you successfully refer someone else to buy a season ticket too.
The competition has already attracted significant attention on social media, with many users purchasing tickets so they can try and jumpstart their coaching careers.
“I'm not giving up the headset if we score,” one fan said. “I'm sorry but how is this a real thing for a D1 school This isn't a scrimmage or practice,” another asked. “What if we just punt on the first play of the game,” another suggested.
“$75 for a chance to call the first drive is… tempting,” added another.
The winner will be announced on August 19, and you will have to work alongside the head coach, you can’t just go completely rogue.47:T105d, The Akron Zips ha
